15-Minute Music Lesson for Good Friday and Easter
Our newest mini-course is only $10 thru 5/24!
Today I have a 15-Minute Music Lesson for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. This particular lesson, unlike many of my other 15-Minute Music Lessons, is very religious in nature. The music we’ll listen to has the purpose of teaching about the real reason for Easter. The first 3 songs have lyrics that help us focus on Jesus and his death on the cross, specifically why He chose to die–to save us from our sins and provide us a way to eternal life in heaven. The last two songs guide us in celebrating that Jesus rose and conquered death.
The printable pack that you can download for free below contains copywork, a listening sheet and a worksheet to see what the kids learned from the lesson.
“Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted” (Fernando Ortega) is a hymn from the 1800s. See the lyrics of “Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted” here.
“There is a Fountain Filled With Blood” (Selah) is a meaningful hymn written by William Cowper. You can see the lyrics for “There is a Fountain Filled With Blood” here, as well as a story about the lyricist (which is more appropriate for older students).
“How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” (Stuart Townend) is one of my favorite modern-day hymns. See the lyrics of “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” here and watch the Story Behind the Song explained by the author himself on the second video.
The Full Online Course Music for Holidays and Special Days is now available. 36 Lessons to use throughout the year!
“My Redeemer Lives” (Nicole C. Mullins) is a beautiful song that speaks of God’s power. See the lyrics of “My Redeemer Lives” here.
Finally, let’s listen to the “Hallelujah” chorus by G.F. Handel from his oratorio Messiah. Although we tend to associate Messiah with Christmas, it was originally written for and performed around Easter in 1741.
Here are the lyrics for Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus:
Hallelujah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ,
He shall reign forever and ever.
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And He shall reign forever and ever,

I’m having trouble finding where the download is, I can’t find a button – but my mom-brain has been troubling lately.
I can relate to Mom brain! I can’t seem to be able to post an image of a screenshot to show you the button. But, you can see it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17SmbFgnul3ErcmDCPaZW04KJpBYBtGYW/view?usp=sharing
