Next, we will listen to and learn an Israeli song called “Hava Nagila.”
“Hava Nagila” is an Israeli folk song, with the title translated as “Let Us Rejoice.” It’s traditionally sung at Jewish celebrations such as weddings and bar mitzvahs.
“Hava Nagila” was composed in 1915 by Moshe Nathanson to encourage the revival of Hebrew as a spoken language by Jews.
Listen to “Hava Nagila” here.
“Hava Nagila” Lyrics:
Hava nagila ve-nismecḥa = Let us rejoice and be happy
Hava neranenah ve-nismecḥa = Let us sing and be happy
